Hlela, Betty Nosipho

Betty Nosipho Hlela grew up in South Africa and came to London aged 28, as a member of the cast of Ipi Tombe, a West End musical.
She co-founded Zenzele in Haggerston c.2000 with other women of southern African heritage. They used recycled fabrics to teach arts and crafts, and create African music and dance costumes in Hackney. Many of her items featured her label ‘Born in Hackney’.
