History
NUPE was the National Union of Public Employees, a trade union which functioned until 1993. It represented workers within the public sector such as those in local government, health services universities. In Hackney's history, NUPE have supported strikes, occupations and more action by the health and public service workers in the borough.
In 1993, NUPE, COHSE (Confederation of Health Service Employees) and NALGO (National Association for Local Government Officers') merged to form Unison, a new trade union which represents local government and public sector employees.
