Biography

Gifty Naa DK was born in Ghana in the 1950s. She moved to Britain in 1979 as a member of the Bokoor (Cool) band, touring and giving drum lessons all over the UK.

In the early 1990s, Gifty made the decision to go solo, putting out two albums, including the soulful "Etome" in 1998. In a music career that lasted over 50 years, she released seven CD's.

In the early 2000s, Gifty opened a hair salon called "It Will Grow Back" on Kingsland Road, where she specialised in braiding, from cornrows to corkscrews and twists. She pioneered the 'tree hairstyle' and was commissioned to create models of this hairstyle for Hackney Museum and the organisers of the Queens Golden Jubilee in 2002.

Gifty passed away from a short illness in 2023, her death announced on social media by a music label CEO.
