Biography

Daniel Defoe (c.1660 - 1731) lived at 95 Church Street Stoke Newington, and worked in the area in the early 1700s. He worked as a soldier, merchant, spy, but was best known as an author. His works include ‘Robinson Crusoe’. A controversial figure in his lifetime, Defoe worked as a spy, rebelled against the King, and was put in prison and in the pillory for his writings.
