Ofili, Chris
Chris Ofili was the first artist of African heritage to win the prestigious Turner prize in 1998.
Born in Manchester with roots in Nigeria, Chris was a member of the Young British Artists, a group of British artists who began to exhibit together in 1988 and who became known for their openness to materials and processes, shock tactics and entrepreneurial attitude. He now divides his time between his home in Hackney and Trinidad in the Caribbean.
