Cordwainers College
1887
A school of shoe and boot manufacture
Cordwainers Technical College began in 1913 when the Leather Trades School was taken over by the Worshipful Company of Cordwainers.
The college was dedicated to the education of shoe and boot making as well as leathercraft and had great ties with its industry. Many students went on to work in the shoe and leather trades. Its courses were unique, some being the only one of their kind in the country.
In 1946, the college relocated from Bethnal Green Road to 182 Mare Street, in Hackney and was expanded during 1956-1957. In August 2000, Cordwainers was incorporated into London College of Fashion.
