Grace Heels

Grace Heels was born in 1895 to carriage driver Mark Heels and is wife Rose. She was one of 9 children, 3 of which died in infancy. Grace's family lived at 5 Dunlace Road, Clapton. She was baptised at All Saints Church, Clapton Park.
Around 1906-9 she was a student at Rushmore Road school, and she was active within the Clapton Park Sunday School.
By the age of 16 in 1911, Grace was living and working as a 'between maid' for the Lambton family on Bolton Street, Mayfair, one of seven servants.
By the 1930s she returned to living with her parents at the family home on Dunlace Road and working as a blouse presser and folder. At some point she became a clerical officer.
Grace continued to live with her mother at Dunlace Road until 1957/58, when she moved to the neighbouring road at 62 Clifden road.
