Martinson, Neil

Biography

Neil Martinson has been photographing the local area since he was a teenager. In the 1970s he was introduced to Centerprise, a radical publishing bookshop in Dalston and Free Form Arts, which had a darkroom. Both organisations helped him to hone his photography skills. His keen interest in community organising and activism meant that he was often on the front line with his camera capturing many of the campaigns in the borough during the 1970s and 1980s.

Neil captured the changing landscape and communities of the area through his photographs and contributed to a number of publications, as well as published his own books featuring his work.
