History
Sheba (Feminist Press) is an independent collective and publishers based in Dalston. They began in 1980, publishing books by authors from under represented groups. Sheba published the work of women, people of colour and LGBT writers. Topics covered included race, class, sexuality and gender. They were the main UK publisher for the American writer, poet and civil rights activist Audre Lorde.
Sheba prioritised the publishing of Black, Asian and white working class writers and promoted a diverse range of material from essays to erotica which sought to change the landscape of late 20th century British publishing.
