Biography

Peter Kahn was a teacher at Hackney Free and Parochial School (later Urswick School) for 10 years, where he was both head of the English and Maths departments.

He was elected as a Labour councillor for South Defoe Ward in 1978. In 1982 he became deputy head of Hackney Council under Anthony Kendall’s leadership, and Peter has described himself at this time as having represented the ‘hard left’ of the Labour party to Anthony’s ‘soft left.’
