Mary Pimm
1950
Mary Pimm worked in the civil service for the Ministry of Defence. She met her partner Nik Wood on a trade union course, and the two have lived in Gore Road near Victoria Park since 1976.
Mary was active in civil service union campaigning around the Whitehall area as a member of SCPS (Society of Civil and Public Servants, a predecessor organisation to PCS), as an activist and then a full time member of staff.
Mary retired in 2003, and since then they have had voluntary roles within their community. This included being an Independent Custody Visitor of police stations, a trustee for the charity Women in Prison (WIP) and acting as chair of the Victoria Park Community Association, which represents residents living in Hackney and Tower Hamlets.
