'Hackney Council Working for Local People' Badge

Object history

The slogan "Working for Local People' was used by Hackney Council around 1984-1989. During this time, Hackney Council joined other boroughs in outright opposition to rate-capping, with the council leader declaring they faced bankruptcy if unable to set a rate. Many of these badges are shown being worn at a demonstration at Hackney Town Hall against rate-capping in May 1985.
