A British pre-decimal one penny coin (1d). Before decimal currency replaced it in 1971, Britain used the 'pounds, shillings & pence' (or 'Lsd') system: twelve pennies made a shilling, and twenty shillings made a pound; therefore 240 pennies made a pound.
