A portrait poster from Pakistan, showing the poet, philosopher and politician, Muhammad Iqbal, also known as Allama Iqbal. Iqbal was born in 1877 and died in 1938, so he lived in what was at the time 'British India', and he is often seen as having been an inspiration for the 1940s pro-independence Pakistan Movement. He is also considered an important figure in Urdu literature, especially for his poetry. The eagle was an important and complex motif in Iqbal's poetry.
