Poster for the event 'Digging up the Past' at Hackney Town Hall by Mortimer Wheeler. An illustration is shown of a standing man wielding a mace about to strike a kneeling prisoner. This appears to be taken from the Narmer Palette, a famous artefact from ancient Egypt.

Wheeler is recognised as one of the most important British archaeologists of the twentieth century, particulary for successfully encouraging public interest in archaeology and excavation.
