Bacteriology; Infection; Infection is a term used when bacteria have invaded the body an dlive and multiply there. Infectious or Communicable Diseases are those spread from one person to another. Among these are the specific fevers which are caused by specific organisms for example diphtheria and scarlet fever. Specific means that the germ is responsible for its own particular disease. Infection may enter the body by Inhalation, Ingestion and Inoculation. a) Inhalation, through the respiratory tract as in cases of phithisis and pneumonia. b) By Ingestion, through the gastro-intestinal tract such as typhoid fever. c) BY inoculation, through a break in the skin as in tetanus and esysipelas or by the bite of the insect as in malaria.
