Friends of the HACKNEY EMPIRE
UPDATE!
The Friends of the Hackney Empire are alive, active and going from strength to strength. Above all, we love and support this magnificent listed, living Theatre!
We have recently agreed with the Hackney Empire Preservation Trust (responsible for the fabric and the full restoration of the building) that the Friends will take on a number of smaller urgent projects in and around the Theatre. Specific things that need to be tackled now because they are problematic, desperate or just plain embarrassing!
Our first project has been to replace the derelict timber gates, at the back of the Theatre, with impressive, secure iron ones. Money has been raised and the new gates will be erected within the next few weeks, complete with a plaque acknowledging the good work of the Friends.
Now we are finalising plans for the Friends' next project. Full details will be in our regular Newsletter, which will also carry information about the events like the Friend's new social evenings. The first of these will be an opportunity to meet Prof. Andrew Patenall, who has been unearthing fascinating details of the very early days of the Theatre.
Meanwhile, we are delighted that Friends will have a privilege ticket offer for the coming New Year season of "Saturday Night Comedy Shows" at the Empire. To use this offer just once would almost pay for a year's membership of the Friends!

We urgently need more Friends. Friends who, whether or not they are able to help with fundraising, can simply provide valued support by their membership. Subscription for a year costs only £6 - £3 for pensioners and unwaged.
