Object history

The Association of Women's Clubs of Zimbabwe (A.W.C) is an umbrella organisation for the hundreds of women's clubs in the country. It has around 60,000 members in rural areas throughout Zimbabwe and strives to provide employment opportunities for women.

African women took on the leadership of the organisation and renamed it to Association of Women's Clubs after Zimbabwe became independent in 1980. There was great interest in keeping these clubs going but for them also be a source of income for the women who were members.
Mission Statement
AWC seeks to improve the standard of living of poor, marginalised, rural and urban grassroots women in Zimbabwe by providing them with skills, information and knowledge to allow them to effectively participate in the economic political and social development of their country for their families benefit.

Objectives
Enable women to increase food production.
Improve women`s health.
Stimulate the development of women`s entrepreneurship.
Promote the dissemination of information to women.
Promote participation of women in civic affairs.
