END ALL CENCORSHIP [CENSORSHIP] OF THE PRESS IN TURKEY!
END ALL OPPRESION OF THE KURDISH PEOPLE
ANAP government which is continuation of the 1980 military junta in Turkey has organised 'Extra Ordinary Govenor of a Province' at the south-east Turkey which is the north of Kurdistan and has announced an anti-democratic decree on April 10, 1990.
The history of the Republic of Turkey is full of examples of the use of the laws of cencorship and oppression just the democratic movements begin to gather strenght [strength] and the Kurdistan National awakening begins to develop.
Acoording [According] to the decree, Kurdish People could be forced to re allccate [reallocate] elsewhere, media and printshops could be banned, all trade union's activities could be stopped by the Governor of the Province even outside his area of authority. It would not be possible to disagree with the decree of the main constitution.
The decree is similar to the "Takrir-i Sukun" used in 1925 to keep from the public the bloody suppression of the Seyh Said Rebellions. As a result it is significant as the decree reminds Kurdish People of the preperation for genocide.
The decree also creates a dilemma between the media and printshops thus leading to auto-cencorship aimed at silencing the democratic and socialist press.
KURDISTAN
25 million Kurds have been living in their mother land shared out between Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey since World War I and have been fighting for the right self-determination.
According to Amnesty International 250 000 People, many of them Kurdish, have been tortured since the military coup in 1980. The Medical Foundation have established that 88% of the most recent arrivals examined, suffered torture and beatings.
THE 1980 MILITARY JUNTA
Since the 1980 military coup which closed down the parliament, trade unions, newspapers, democratic organisations and pressure groups,
54 people have been hung
800 Political prisoners killed under torture
500 000 imprisoned as political criminals
50 000 forced to live outside Turkey
27 Journalists whose sole crime was their writings have been arrested and given a total of 3000 years imprisonment. Thousands of books have been confiscated and burnt. Author of the book "Kurdistan - an International Colony", Ismail Besikci, a scientist, has been re-arrested.
We also demand the release of the people who were arrested during the May Day celebrations in Turkey and Turkish Kurdistan.
We call on all democratic forces to given their support to the May Day detainees who have been on hunger strike sice [since] then, at the Bayrampasa Prison - Istanbul.
We, the undersigned representatives of the press in London demand an end to all cencorship of the press and of the oppression of Kurdish and Turksih Peoples. We invite the British Trade Union movement, ethnic-minority groups, democratic pressure groups and all those who support democracy and the freedom of the press to fight for Kurdish People's rights.
