Object history

Hackney Health Emergency was a campaigning group set up by the Trades Council, the Community Health Council and the Borough Council in response to the planned closures of St Matthews Hospital, St Johns Hospital, St Leonards Hospital, the German Hospital and the Mothers hospital (see also 2008.106 and 1994.12).

Orchestre Jazira and Jenako Arts

Based at the Jenako Arts Centre, Orchestre Jazira was a large multi-ethnic Ghanaian and British band playing West African Highlife Music. The centre, on Balls Pond Road, was an important hub for African and Caribbean cultural activities and education.
