Albert George Lewis
Albert George Lewis tried to join the armed forces in December 1915 but was declared medically unfit at Hackney Baths. By August 1916, there was a desperate need for men at the battle fronts and Albert was accepted into the armed forces.
Conscription was not introduced in Ireland due to political unrest. It did apply to other parts of the British Empire, but it was not always enforced, such as in the Caribbean.
