Physical Description

This is a card character of Maria, a handpainted woman sitting at a spinning wheel. A toy theatre set may have been used by wealthy children in the 1800s. This set was made in the 1850s by Pollocks of Hoxton. The theatre and its many characters could be bought ready to use or be painted at home by the children.
