Fragment of Roman container, possibly a bowl or dish.
It is made from a type of glossy red tableware known as Samian ware, a pottery primarily used for displaying and serving food. The majority was made in France and Germany and brought to Britain.
This fragment is richly decorated with moulded geometric patterns This would have been made by impressing individual stamps into the clay after the vessel had been shaped on a potter’s wheel.
