Fossil Horn Core - Steppe Bison (fragment)
Fossil
1991.880
Fragment of a fossil horn core of a Steppe Bison. It would have been covered with a layer of Keratin when the animal was alive. (Previously suggested to potentially by from a Pleistocene primeval ox.) 'II' in ink.
The ink annotation of the Roman numeral 'II' indicates that this is part of the collection of Joseph Simmonds Soul that was on display in Case II at Hackney Central Library during c.1920s.
It probably is included in the Soul collection catalogue as 'Horn of ?' Identified as a Steppe bison by Prof. Adrian Lister.
