Physical Description
This needle box is made from wood. It is cylindrical and has been turned to create grooves. It slides apart and contained sewing needles (object numbers 1991.904 and 1991.921). In private schools in the 1800s, girls learned the 'domestic arts' of sewing, cooking and entertaining. Being good at these skills was meant to help them find husbands. They may have used a needle box like this.
