Africa Speaks, 1986
In the 1980s speakers of African languages made up the fourth largest community grouping in the borough. The Three Continents Liberation Collective was a radical project
aimed to transform the books offered by libraries. Set-up by a British-Kenyan Hackney librarian Shiraz Duranni, he worked with other library staff to identify literature which would be relevant to the borough’s multicultural audiences and in languages familiar to them, rather than just English.
