This is a black and white photograph of Sally Theakson, the Chaplain at St John's Parish Church in Hackney. She was a leading figure in the fight to have women ordained into the Church of England. Until 1992, women were not allowed to become priests. The controversial legislation was passed by the Church of England's governing parliament seventeen years after it was first debated, though only by a margin of two votes.
This photograph was taken as part of a series showing women at work in Hackney.
