Object history
A badge for the Hackney Wick Festival that tool place on Saturday 11 June 1983.
Building on a summer fair held the previous year, the festival aimed to re-build a community spirit and sense of identity to an isolated and insular part of Hackney in the face of the proposed demolition of tower blocks and extension of the M11 motorway. As well as providing a fun day out, it sought to bring together various groups within the community previously working in isolation. According to a poster for the event held by the Chats Palace archive, the event had music, theatre, stalls, processions, games, sideshows and more.
