Physical Description
This is a photograph of male workers from the Lesney toy company on a day trip to Hackney Wick. Most of the workers are holding cans of beer or thermos flasks. Lesney's was started by two ex-servicemen in 1947 and found fame in the 1950s as the maker of Matchbox Toys. The company went on to become one of Hackney’s largest ever employers. By 1966 Lesney’s employed 3600 workers and was producing more than 100 million models a year.
