Physical Description

This card certifies that Arthur C. Downes gave blood to the British Red Cross in 1939 and 1940. The stamps record the dates of donation. The card has been signed by Honorary Secretary Percy Lane Oliver. Oliver facilitated the first voluntary blood donation in 1921, and continued to organise a donors scheme from home with the help of his wife until his death in 1944.
