This stethoscope was used by Dr. Lionel Stoll who was born in Lithuania in 1907 to Russian Jewish parents. The family moved to Hackney when Lionel was 11. A stethoscope is used to listen to organs such as the lungs on the chest or another part of a patient's body. Sounds inside the body are amplified and can be used to help the doctor diagnose the patient.
