Physical Description
Photograph by Dennis Morris entitled 'Stay Black', showing graffiti on the roof of the Black House.
“The Black House was set up in the Holloway Road in 1969 by Michael X (England’s answer to Malcolm X) with money donated by John Lennon and Yoko Ono (said to be in the region of £1 million). It was the first of its kind to exist in England. It had a library with books and artifacts on Black history and accommodation and recreational rooms. It was a refuge for Black youth and a place where they could meet to defuse their anger from a society which had no idea how to fit them into the system.” - Dennis Morris
