By the time Eason was running his studio in Dalston, more working people were able to afford a wedding portrait.
However most Victorian brides couldn't run to a full white wedding with all the trimmings. They simply wore a new best dress which they would then regularly use on Sundays and on high days and holidays.
Many wedding photographs from the Victorian period show the man seated and the woman standing. This was not traditional but practical because the photographer had to get two heads into a rather limited field of focus. Mr and Mrs Darby are able to stand together for their wedding photograph as their heights are similar.
