EAST LONDON 2004 - 2012
Artists Caroline Christie and Bobby Lloyd formed on site arts in 2004 to explore the profound changes taking place in east london’s lower lea valley / olympic park area. In parallel with their own visual art practices, Christie and Lloyd led extensive photographic projects with Traveller and Gypsy communities going through the process of displacement from the Olympic site and beyond this to resettlement.
This collection of postcards taken from both the artists and the traveller and gypsy archives marks the final olympic park area project for on site arts.
On site arts’ photographs and installations have been exhibited across London: on four number 38 Routemaster buses; at space gallery, hackney; on construction hoardings along carpenter road inside the closed-off Olympic Park; in a luton van turned gallery; a caravan for Holocaust Memorial Day; at the V & A’s Museum of Childhood Tower Hamlets; at City Hall and in 2012 at parkway crescent romany gypsy
