Carnival Banners
Carnivals are large street festivals from Caribbean cultural heritage. As the Caribbean community in the area grew, so did the number of small carnivals. Inspired by Caribbean carnival traditions, these banners were designed by the Hackney Caribbean Elderly Organisation for the One Hackney Carnival in 2008 which brought together over 15 local carnival groups. The borough’s carnival bands have been active supporting ethnically diverse cultural groups to participate in activities, bringing a global flavour to processions.
