Angela Davis in Hackney
Angela Davis’ visit to Hackney in 1986 sparked widespread interest and inspiration amongst a young Black British generation who wanted to have their voices heard. She was a prominent counterculture activist and radical in the 1960s. As leader of the Communist Party USA she had close relations with the Black Panthers
and was involved in the civil rights movement. She was twice a candidate for Vice President of the USA in the 1980s representing the Communist Party USA.
