From the exhibition 'Hackney@50: The People's Choice' [12 February - 29 August 2015]
I've lived in Hackney for 33 of my 90 years and discovered it has so much historic interest.
My career has involved theatre, television and cinema in which, as a producer for the BBC and Channel 4, I've used many Hackney locations such as Alfred Hitchcock's Gainsborough studios, Hoxton Hall and the splendid Hackney Empire.
My chosen item from Hackney Museum is this 1960s television set. It reminds me of one of my BBC television drama highlights, the police Series Z Cars. It went on air in 1962 and I produced 176 hour-long, live episodes over the next four years. Well remembered is the signature tune which heralds Merseyside and Everton football club onto their field of play."
