Contacting an elected representative such as Councillor or Member of Parliament (MP) is one way constituents try to get action taken on a particular issue. If a politician is repeatedly contacted about an issue, it provides evidence that it is important to constituents, whose votes they need for re-election.
This box was used in Hackney Town Hall in the 1980s for the public to make enquiries to their councillors.
