Hackney Wick resident Nicola Thorp was sent home from work without pay for wearing these flat shoes. The company had a ‘female grooming policy’ forcing female staff to wear high heels between 2 and 4 inches high.
Nicola took a stand for female workers. She started a petition calling for a ban on forcing women to wear high heels to work. More than 149,000 people signed the petition.
This has resulted in a parliamentary enquiry by the Women’s and Equalities Committee. The law is due to be discussed in Parliament later this year (2016).
