The bone china mug is white coloured with at its centre the official coat of arms of the Borough of Hackney, granted in 1969. The heraldic image shows red arms and a red and white shield in the centre, horizontally divided in two sections, and decorated with a set of three bells on the bottom side and a Maltese cross and two trees on the top one. The shield’s margins are white and blue. On top the shield there is a crest, then a building that resembles a tower. The image is framed with an oval with red lettering saying “London Borough of Hackney/The Mayor’s Charity Appeal 1994-1995”.
The mug was probably part of an initiative of the Borough of Hackney dated 1994/95, to support, help and fund local charities and their services.
