Ocean, opened c.2000 on Mare Street, was a community arts centre and one of London's few independent music venues. It provided an events space for a variety of musical genres, with a high number of artists from the African-Caribbean communities performing. The venue closed in 2004 and became the Hackney Picture House in 2011.
