Metal pin badge in red, white and gold showing the profile of Vladimir Lenin in a star in front of a flame. Cyrillic text is printed underneath Lenin's head.
Object history
This pin badge is associated with - and probably distributed by - a youth organisation funded and operated by the Communist party of Soviet Russia called the Vladimir Lenin All-Union Pioneers or Young Pioneers. Between 1922 and 1993 children and young adults would participate in Scout-like activities to show allegiance to the Soviet Union.
The Young Pioneers' motto Всегда готов! (Vsegda gotov!) meaning 'Always Prepared!' or 'Always Ready!' features on this badge. The Young Pioneers disbanded in 1991 during the collapse of the USSR.
This badge was donated by the former Branch Secretary for Hackney Unison trade union, 1994-1996.
