Object history
The badge celebrates the 15th anniversary of TELCO, The East London Citizens Organisation.
The organisation brings together organisations of different nature, from schools and universities to churches, mosques and migrant groups, and it counts over 50,000 people in their alliance. The group aims to 'overcome injustice and build a better and fairer society'.
The organisation is known across the UK as 'Citizens UK', while the Hackney's branch (or 'Chapter' as the group refers to the different branches) is called TELCO and it constitutes the founding Chapter of the overall organisation.
Since their founding in 1996, TELCO pioneered the Living Wage Campaign in the UK.
