Personal experiences

Shared by Fay Clark, donor:
“I think we got this badge when Sutton House was first opened.

When Sutton House was getting started my husband, David Clark, kept contacting The National Trust and telling them that they have to do something because he saw that they were taking things out of the house. He kept writing and writing. I think they found linenfold panels somewhere in Shoreditch, they found different bits all over the place. Eventually The National Trust came in and took over the house.

When they opened Sutton House for the first time I went with my daughter and it was wonderful to see the house. There was a lot missing, but it was really nice. It was a wonderful day, people talking to you, and there were some people were dressed up in costumes. It was lovely.

Since then I used to go there with the Hackney Elders, but since the lockdown a lot of the activities that used to happen no longer do. There they used to have a lovely Cafe and so on. I'm a textile Artist as well and I exhibited at Sutton house.”
