Rock Against Racism, 1978
Syd Shelton

Following a series of racist incidents across London, the Rock Against Racism (1976-1981) movement was born. Led by the Anti-Nazi League, the movement brought Punk and Reggae music bands together on stage.

The first concert was in Victoria Park on 30 April 1978. At this time half the park lay in Hackney. Photographer Syd Shelton joined the crowd of 80,000 people in Trafalgar Square and marched to Victoria Park, where bands such as the Clash and X-Ray Spex headlined.
