From the 2024 exhibition 'Making Carnival':
Perpetual Beauty Carnival Club (1979-2000) was one of the first carnival groups to introduce Mas to Hackney.
Lincoln Rahamut (1946-2019) grew up surrounded by carnival arts in Trinidad and made costumes for Trinidad’s carnival. Lincoln came to England in 1970 and brought a new standard of Mas to Notting Hill Carnival. He founded Perpetual Beauty in Hackney, opening a workshop in the old fire station on Leswin Road, Stoke Newington.
The group’s members created impressive costumes and wore them at Notting Hill Carnival, where they won top prizes. Over this time, they started introducing their Mas costumes to local festivals in Hackney.
