Oil painting, portrait of a man, by John Renton, wearing a clerical collar with preaching tabs and holding a book. Probably of Rev. James Creighton.
Creighton was one of John Wesley's principal ministers living and preaching in Hackney. One of his daughters, Jane (see CH 1996.32), married George Loddiges (see CH 1996.106) manager of the famous plant nursery in Hackney. Creigton’s son married Jane Renton, the sister of the artist.
This painting was originally accessioned as a portrait of Mr Conrad Loddiges.
