Portrait of the writer in profile, with his eyes closed. He wears a brown gown with a light shirt and has short brown hair. his hands are held in front of his chest as if gesticulating. A thick book rests on the base of a pillar in the background.

This painting appears to show the poor eyesight that Johnson suffered from early childhood, and his hands making the “odd gesticulations” that has led to be the posthumous diagnosis of Tourette syndrome.
