Physical Description
This is a model of a Romany caravan, known as a vardo. A vardo is a traditional horse-drawn wagon which functions as both a home and form of transport. This style is known as the 'Reading'. The model, like a full-size vardo, has been richly decorated with hand carving, here with flowers and horses. It was made by Patrick Doran while he was in prison. Doran was an Irish traveller whose family camped in Hackney from time to time.
