OUR PROPOSALS FOR THE STOKE NEWINGTON RESERVOIRS & FILTER BEDS
Introduction & Invitation
Thames Water is currently constructing a massive new underground system (London
Transport Ring Main) to meet the ever increasing demand for the supply of water to
London. As a such aims are works and reser-voirs at Stoke Newington will no longer be required from around 1989.
The site, an area of over 90 acres in the London Borough of Hackney, can in our view be put to new use for the benefit of local people. This leaflet seeks to explain our present ideas so that local residents and interested groups can respond to these proposals.
Hackney Council
Thames have had discussions with your local council on the future of this land and the Council has Produced its own area statement.*
The Council identified community needs including water sports, angling, public access, indoor games, museums, nature conserv-action, children’s play area and the like.
We believe that such aims are best achieved by combining them with viable alternative uses and sympathetic redevelopment.
